Construction of the natural gas pipeline to Shanghai has begun in Songjiang District, the Songjiang District Construction Commission said on Friday, Shanghai Daily reported.
Under the plan, the Shanghai section of pipeline will be completed by the end of this year carrying gas from the southwestern province of Sichuan to the city.
According to the commission, the volume of gas provided by Sichuan to Shanghai will reach 1.55 billion cubic meters in 2010 and 1.9 billion cubic meters in 2011. The pipeline paving project in Shanghai will stretch 47 kilometers starting from Liantang at the boundary between Qingpu and Jinshan districts, and through Xinbang town in Songjiang to Minhang District.
