After the historic cabinet meeting at Kalapatthar plateau on Mt. Everest (Qomolangma) on Dec.4, Nepali government is now embarking on another initiative on the sidelines of the upcoming United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen to draw global attention to climate change impacts on the Himalayas.
According to Sunday's my republica.com, in carrying forward the messages of the Summitteers' Summit to Save the Himalayas declaration, the government will organize a Summitteers' March in Copenhagen on Dec. 11, coinciding with the International Mountain Day.
Minister for Forests and Soil Conservation Deepak Bohara will lead a delegation of 57 members on Monday to Copenhagen. Another five ministers will join the team.
The team includes 32 summiteers including 19-time Everest climber Apa Sherpa, the oldest Everest climber Min Bahadur Sherchan, 16-time Everest conqueror Phurba Tashi, youngest female climber Nimduma Sherpa and others. The team includes 12 women summiteers.
