Beijing will continue to improve the capital's air quality in 2012 by focusing on reducing PM2.5 - the smallest and most hazardous airborne pollutant, Beijing Mayor Guo Jinlong said Monday.
Despite the new challenges and new requirements to monitor airborne particulate matter under 2.5 micrometers in size, the capital city has vowed to improve air quality in the following year, Guo said in a meeting planning Beijing's environmental work in 2012.
Beijing will see 200,000 mu (133 million square meters) more green land and a project to renovate 15-million-square meter old communities will be launched, according to Guo.
