An international seminar, themed " Towards a green economy: Impacts of climate change on food security and natural resources management in Asia and Africa", was held in Vietnam's southern Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City on Wednesday, reported Vietnam News Agency.
The seminar was co-organized by the United Nations Center for Regional Development (UNCRD), HCM City's National University and University of Technology, said the report.
Participating in the event were more than 70 scientists, scholars, policy-makers and managers from Asian countries including Japan, Thailand, Myanmar, Malaysia, Indonesia, Bangladesh and Vietnam, and African countries including Ghana, Tanzania, Namibia, Kenya and Uganda, and representatives from the World Bank (WB) and other UN organizations.
Participants shared with one another experience in evaluating climate change process, in managing water resource, soil, agriculture and related areas. Measures were also being discussed to improve human being's living environment in the related regions.
According to UNCRD, Vietnam is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate change, so the seminar would be of significance for policy-makers and scholars to exchange the know- how and prepare for strategies to respond to climate change and ensure food security and natural resources.
The seminar will continue until September 24 with six discussion sessions and two field trips in the Cuu Long river delta, said the report.
