Authorities in east Zhejiang Province on Wednesday issued warnings for super typhoon Muifa, as there is a chance that the storm will make landfall in the province over the next three days.

According to a report issued by Zhejiang's provincial meteorological observatory on Wednesday, Muifa,the 9th super typhoon of the year, was located about 1,198 km southeast of the province's coastal city of Taizhou as of 2 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Li Jian, chief of the Zhejiang provincial meteorological bureau, said that the storm is currently packing winds of up to 56 meters per second and will be moving northwest at a speed of 10 to 15 km per hour.
"It might be possible for Muifa to make landfall in the east coastal region of Zhejiang on Saturday evening and pass through the province, which may result in significant damage," said Li.
According to Ge Huijun, deputy chief of Zhejiang Province and the commander-in-chief of the provincial flood control and drought relief headquarters, Zhejiang has not suffered a direct hit from a super typhoon since 2006.
The storm is also affecting other areas, generating winds with speeds of up to 100 km per hour in the East China Sea, according to a forecast issued by the Central Meteorological Office at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for fishing boats in the area.
In addition, the Zhejiang Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters has ordered local authorities in seaside areas to be ready for any possible evacuation efforts. The province's coastal cities of Wenzhou, Taizhou, Ningbo, Zhoushan and Jiaxing are all preparing for the storm.
