A moderate earthquake jolted eastern New Guinea region of Morobe in Papua New Guinea early on Saturday morning, according to U.S. Geological Survey.
There was no reports of injuries or damage after the 5.8 magnitude quake hit at 5:43 a.m. local time (19:43 GMT on Friday) with the depth of 1 km.
The epicenter of the quake was 54 km southwest of Lae in eastern New Guinea region and 252 km north of Port Moresby, the capital of the country.
Earthquake is common in PNG but only a few are destructive.
