30 mammals designated as protected animals in Myanmar

A total of 39 rare mammals including tiger, elephant , tapir and golden deer were designated as totally protected animals in Myanmar, the local Weekly Eleven quoted the Myanmar Forestry Department as saying on Wednesday.
According to the law on protection of wild animals, natural plants and lands, three categories of animals are designated which are totally protected animals, ordinarily protected animals and seasonally protected animals.
The totally protected animals include 39 kinds of mammals, 50 kinds of birds and 9 kinds of reptiles, while ordinarily protected ones go to 12 types of mammals, 43 kinds of birds and 6 kinds of reptiles and seasonally protected animals are listed as 2 kinds of mammals and 13 kinds of birds.
Meanwhile, Myanmar is planning to launch a basic bird-sorting course in Yangon and Mandalay in late February aimed at sharing knowledge of sorting kinds of bird, their lifestyle, behaviour and food they eat.
Moreover, Myanmar ministry of forestry has designated Nat Ma Taung national park, also known as Mount Victoria, in southern Chin state as a natural protected area this month.
Nat Ma Taung which is the 36th park of its kind in Myanmar accommodating 289 species of birds, attracts ornithologists worldwide to watch the rare birds in the park.
Mammals such as tiger, bear, wild boar, wild cat, seraw, leopard, gibbon, pangolin etc. also inhabit in this area.
