Visiting UN Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Catherine Bragg took a tour in the flood devastated areas in north and east of Sri Lanka, officials said Thursday.
Bragg flew to the district of Mullaithivu in the north while she would travel to the worst affected eastern district of Batticaloa on Friday.
The flashfloods which hit 11 district in the island country killed at least 43 people and affected over a million.
Bragg's visit coincided with the United Nations's appeal to raise 51 million U.S. dollars for immediate relief for Sri Lanka's flood victims
There are fears that there would be a severe shortage and price hike in rice and various other crops in the coming months due to the damage caused by the floods.
In response to the government's appeal for help, pledges have come from China, Japan, India and the European Union.
