The Colombian government said on Monday that 197 people have died in the country due to heavy rains.
In a statement published on its website, the Colombian Interior and Justice Ministry said that the rains have killed 197 people, injured 248, left 143 missing and close to 2 million homeless.
These figures include the victims of a landslide on Sunday in the Antioquia department in northwest Colombia, which buried a whole neighborhood.
The statement said the landslide killed 20 people, left 126 missing, destroyed 45 homes, affected 250 people and injured eight.
The Colombian government is analyzing the possibility of declaring a state of exception in order to release resources that would mitigate damages. Several regions have reported severe flooding and severe damage to roads and highways.
