The first China Low-Carbon Energy Entrepreneurship Competition officially kicked off in Beijing on Sunday, an event that aims to spur the industrialization of more green technology firms.
Experts on low-carbon economies and business leaders will provide technical evaluations and feasibility assessments to ensure the best entries. Entrepreneurship training, technology transfer and financial services will also be offered to participants to promote their projects across the country.
More than 20 venture capital firms have joined as partners in the contest, which is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the National Energy Bureau and the Chinese Academy of Sciences. “They are ready for investment negotiations with owners of excellent start-up projects,” said Ji Hepeng, editor-in-chief of Science News magazine, an event co-planner.
China Three Gorges Corporation, the world’s largest hydropower station on the Yangtze River, has promised big support for the green project contest. The organizing committee announced that it has raised 10 million yuan as seed funds to support eligible projects.
At the launching ceremony, farmer Liu Xingshan from northeast China’s countryside displayed his temperature-controlled house with multi-functional solar greenhouses for the competition.
The competition will tour several cities and provide entrepreneurship training. The contest will last six months, and the final winners will be announced in May, 2011.
