Beijing's first tribunal for environmental protection was set up Wednesday as the municipal government is stepping up efforts in cracking down on polluters.
The environment tribunal in the People's Court of Yanqing County will specifically deal with cases related to environmental pollution.
Such cases were previously handled by the environmental protection departments through administrative orders that lacked enforcement provisions.
Polluters will now face criminal charges before the environment tribunal.
