Cyclone Giri, occurring over the mid-east of the Bay of Bengal, is moving northeastwards with its center in the sea, about 224 kilometers southwest of Rakhine state 's Kyaukphyu, according to a weather forecast of Myanmar State Meteorology and Hydrology Department (MHD) carried on Friday's official daily New Light of Myanmar.

The cyclone is likely to sweep the Rakhine coast between Sittway and Kyaukphyu areas within 24 hours.

The cyclone Giri is now at orange level and is forecast to move towards the Rakhine coast, it said.

The department warned of strong wave along the Rakhine offshore areas with surface wind speed to reach 80 kilometers per hour, advising trawlers and ships operating in the sea to avert possible danger of the cyclone.
