Mexico is one of the countries more vulnerable to natural disasters, Mexican President Felipe Calderon said on Sunday.
During the Civil Protection National Day's ceremony, Calderon said Mexico "will continue being one of the countries in the world suffering more the consequences of these phenomena, mainly due to the increase of the strength and frequency of the hurricanes affecting our region."
Calderon requested Mexicans to work in order to surpass the current challenges. Currently Mexico has a National System of Civil Protection, a National Center of Disaster Prevention, a National Atlas of Risks, a Mexican Seismic Network, a System of Tropical Cyclones Early Alert and a Monitoring network of Active Volcanoes, among other mechanisms.
Calderon said these tools "help to prevent and void the fatal consequences of the natural phenomena."
