An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale struck Taiwan's Hualien city at 12:37 am local time on Sunday, Taiwan's weather bureau said in a statement on its website.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at 23.57 degrees north latitude, and 121.65 degrees east longitude, at a depth of about 27 kilometers.
No report of casualties was available as of late Sunday.
