Heavy rains would sweep parts of China Wednesday, adding more pressure on local governments to deal with landslides and flooding, the Office of State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters said Tuesday.

Henan, Anhui, Hubei and Jiangxi provinces are expected to have a rainfall of over 100 millimeters on Wednesday, while Guangdong, Guangxi, Fujian and Yunan would also be hit by torrential rains, said a statement posted on the website of the China Meteorological Administration.
The office urged local governments to keep a close watch on the weather, evacuate residents in low-lying areas in advance and ramp up flood prevention measures.
As of June 8, floods and landslides have killed 147 people and left 25people missing all over China, the office said.
Transportation has been disrupted in some rain-hit areas and electricity supply, telecommunications, and health facilities have also been affected.
Direct economic losses amounted to 22.3 billion yuan (3.26 billion U.S. dollars), it said.
