Two French professors, Xavier Chevrin and his wife Geraldine Gabin, will start a green trip Monday from Shanghai to Paris driving an electric vehicle (EV) to promote clean-energy-powered vehicles.
The couple, both professors from the University of LaReunion, would start the 13,400-kilometer trip from the Monaco Pavilion in Shanghai World Expo park to Paris in an EV produced by Monaco-based electric sports car maker Venturi and French auto maker PSA Peugeot Citroen.
"We are now quite excited about the trip and looking forward to go," Xavier Chevrin told Xinhua. The journey was expected to take three months.
"Through the trip, we want to prove the reliability of electric vehicles," he said. "If an electric car can travel from Shanghai to Paris, it can be used everywhere. Although there would be challenges and setbacks during the journey, we are sure that would be settled."
He made the comments on the sidelines of a press conference, where the Britain-headquartered non-governmental organization Climate Group launched a report -- "Towards Market Transformation -- Electric Vehicles", focusing on EV development in China.
According to the report, as the world's largest car market, China would see a fast expansion in EV development in the coming years despite challenges, such as technological bottleneck, EV infrastructure shortage and uncompetitive prices.
Wu Changhua, the Greater China director of the group, said EV development would not only help in China's campaign of emission cut, but also boost the country's energy security.
