As heavy snow and cold weather stroke China's agricultural production and caused economic losses in some regions, the country's local governments were asked for a better job to cope with the severe weather.
According to the forecast of China Meteorological Administration, most regions of the country would expect colder weather in the next 10 days, with the average temperature stay 1-3degrees centigrade lower than that in the same period previous years.
By Monday, heavy snows damaged 570,000 mu (38,000 hectares) of greenhouse vegetables, 2.75 million mu of vegetables in five provinces, since the end of October. Hebei, Shanxi, and Henan were included.
Economic losses of agriculture production in the above regions totaled 2.6 billion yuan (380.7 million U.S. dollars) during the period.
Experts from the Ministry of Agriculture (MOA) suggested local governments make efforts to enhance field management. The ministry will send work groups to the worst-hit areas to help farmers.
