The theatre's inaugural New Year concert series will be staged on December 31 and January 1, China News Service reported on Thursday. The 30 yuan tickets -- for standing room only -- will be sold from 9:30 AM on January 1 for the show that night.

One person is allowed to buy two of the special tickets, after bringing forth his or her identity card. Seat tickets have already been sold out.

The New Year concert features world renowned musicians including Japanese conductor Seiji Ozawa, Russian violinist Vadim Repin, American lyric soprano Kathleen Battle, as well as Chinese young pianist Lang Lang, who just received a Grammy nomination for best instrumental soloist.

In addition, some musical treats will also be performed at the concert, such as a pipe organ tune written by Chinese composer Ye Xiaogang and a rarely performed Beethoven Fantasia.

The National Grand Theatre is scheduled to open to the public on December 22nd.
