The American blockbuster
Spider-Man 3 had raked in more
than 100 million yuan on the Chinese mainland by Sunday, becoming
the most lucrative movie in the Chinese market so far this year,
according to the latest box office statistics.
Main distributor Huaxia Film Distribution said Tuesday the
film's box office revenue hit 103.65 million yuan (about US$13.4
million) Sunday. The China Film Group Corporation, the other local
distributor of the film, confirmed the figure.
Both companies said Spide-Man 3 was clearly the
blockbuster of the year.
The film, which opened to audiences on May 2, grossed more than
70 million yuan during the May Day Holiday week and another 30
million yuan the following week, a Huaxia staffer said.
He said "considering that the first week was holiday week, the
revenue drop is normal and acceptable."
The same revenue drop was seen in the United States. The film
took in 60 million dollars in its second weekend, a hefty 60
percent drop from its record debut a week earlier.
