Promising Chinese director Wang Quanan's latest movie Tu
Yan's Marriage has entered the competition for a Golden Bear
Award at the 57th Berlin Film Festival in February.
It was the only Chinese movie submitted by China's Film Bureau
this year.
The director denied his movie is going to find an overseas buyer
in Berlin. "The movie has already been sold to a French distributor
at a good price after I finished editing," he said.
It is rare for a Chinese mainland movie because most of them
have difficulty finding a market niche in the European film
market.
This movie will premiere in Berlin during the film festival on
February 10.
The director has been dedicated to making breakthroughs with
festival movies, making movies that are accepted by China's Film
Bureau with rich characters and good plots.
The movie Tu Ya's Marriage is director Wang's fourth
movie, all of which focus on female perspectives. In this movie,
lead actress Yu Nan, who plays the lead role in all of the
director's movies, plays Tu Ya, a Mongolian wife who is urged by
her paralyzed husband to remarry.
