An unofficial US delegation arrived at Pyongyang's Sun An Airport on Tuesday for a visit.
Among the five-member delegation were Jack Pritchard, a former member of US President George W. Bush's National Security Council staff and a one-time State Department official, Sig Hecker, a nuclear specialist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the US State of New Mexico, and John Lewis, a professor at Stanford University.
Pritchard said their visit is a private one and they were not representing the US government.
Talking to Xinhua, Pritchard and Hecker declined to comment on the purpose and itinerary of their trip, saying only that it will end on Saturday.
The group would visit a nuclear complex in the DPRK, according to media reports.
The visit began on the same day when the DPRK offered to refrain from testing and producing nuclear weapons.
