A new rail service will soon be established between Beijing and Tianjin, a coastal city about 120 kilometers south east of the capital, which will take less than an hour.

The special route cost about 12.3 billion yuan, or some US$1.5 billion, and will begin operating sometime this year.

When the project is finished, the journey-time between the two cites will shorten from the current one and a half hours to around 55 minutes.

More departure times will also be added, with a train leaving every other one hour or half hour.
