Southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region had almost 28,000 tourist arrivals during the Spring Festival holiday week. The region raked in 22 million yuan, or nearly US$3 million, in tourism revenue, up 9 percent from last year.
Domestic tourists accounted for the majority of tourists this Spring Festival holiday season.
Experts attribute the rise to promotions in cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, and the introduction of air ticket discounts and major cuts in other service charges.
