City to Add Taxi Stations

Shanghai will build 350 more Taxi ranks this year, with plans to increase the number to around 1,000 by 2005.

A senior city official was quoted as saying, that by then, no taxi in Shanghai will be seen stopping at undesignated places on the roadside as the existing practice.

Instead, the cabs will line up at local taxi ranks where passengers will get on.

So far, Shanghai has completed seven such stations citywide, all of which are in active use.
