The Songshan National Geology Park, reputed to be a natural museum on geological development, opened to visitors Tuesday, in Dengfeng City of central China's Henan Province.
Located on the Songshan Mountain, the 463.6-sq-km park is one of the first 11 national geology parks ratified in March 2001 by the Ministry of Land and Resources.
Complete and partial Archean, Proterozoic, Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Neozoic strata can be spotted in the park, which is of great importance for the research of crustal movement and development in the early ages.
Also on Tuesday, a geology museum covering 1,300 square meters also opened in the park.
The Songshan Mountain is one of the country's so-called Five Great Sacred Mountains for worship in traditional Chinese culture.
