More than 1 million tourists arrived in the city form overseas during the first quarter of this year, an 8 percent increase year-on year, Xinhua news agency reports. That number includes 730,000 people who stayed in the city for more than one night.
Yao Mingbao, director of the Shanghai Tourism Administrative Commission, said 381,600 overseas tourists traveled to the city during the first two months of this year, an increase of 11.9 percent. Local hotels report an occupancy rate of 68 percent during the two-month period, 1.3 percentage points higher than the same period last year.
