Temples in Mount Hengshan (III)
Banshan Pavilion

On the half way of climbing mountain, you can see Banshan Pavilion, which is half distance from the foot of mountain to highest peak. It should one parting of Hengshan Mountain. Northward you can land Zhurong Peak, westward you can reach Magu Parasite, Nantai Temple and Fuyan Temple and so on. It was built in South dynasty, and has a long history. After Xuandou Temple was built in Qing Dynasty, Banshan Pavilion became its front gate.

The hall of Xuandou Temple is magnificent and grand, is the first temple of Nanyue Taoism. It is composed of Guanliu, Jade Emperor Hall and Three Qing Hall and so on. On the gate there hangs a couplet, which not only emphasizes the position of Banshan Pavilion but also implies the theory of cultivating oneself .according to a religious doctrine.

Lingguan Hall is near the gate with Maintaining Buddha Statue. The second level is Jade Emperor Hall, consecrating Jade Emperor Statue. The third level is Three Qing Hall with three Emperors consecrated. In the hall there is a couplet.

Under Banshan Pavilion there is a huge stone with separated in the middle, seeming cut by sword, which is famous Shijian Stone. It was reported that it was the Shijian Stoneof the peasant uprising leader-Huang Cao.

In Baishan Pavilion there is a 1700-meter cableway to south Sky Door. By cableway, you can fully appreciate magnificent scenery of Nanyue Mountain.

Magu Parasite

Magu Parasite is one kilometer in the west from Banshan Pavilion. Magu is a female immortal in the saying. In order to offer birthday congratulations to west Emphasis on March 3 in lunar calendar, she takes glossy ganoderma to make wine in Heng Mountain every year.

Walking westward and passing one arch bridge and a bamboo pavilion, you will see a flat bridge. Under the bridge it is famous Jiangzhu Waterfall. Walking upward, you will see Jiangzhu Pool, where Magu maked wine. In Jiangzhu Pool there stands Magu Statue .

The natural scenery of Magu Parasite is very beautiful. Along the brook into the forest, the fragrant wild flowers spread everywhere and the green plants cover the whole land. The tourists who came here admire the power of nature.In the landscape there are Lying Tiger Stone and Monkey Stone, etc.

Besides, Glossy Ganoderma Spring neighbors Magu Parasite, and is composed of Glossy Ganoderma Foundation and swimming pool. Glossy Ganoderma Spring is a huge artificial glossy ganoderma and the water pours out from the artificial glossy ganoderma.

The saying of Magu Congratulating Birthday is an ancient explanation of Chinese Nationality. In "Happy like east sea, Birthday compared with south mountain", the "south mountain" points to Heng Mountain.

Buff Glass Stage

Buff Glass Stage is one kilometer from Magu Parasite and lies in Zhibo Peak. Buff Glass Stage is related to a saying involving Buddha. It is reported that Huairang Buddha was the abbot in Fuyan Temple. One day a monk called Ma Daoyi came to Heng Mountain from Sichuan and sat in meditation beside every day. Huairang Buddha saw he had the intelligence and was intended to reveal him. So he came to him and asked him why he sat in mediation, Ma Daoyi answered that it is for becoming Buddha. Huairang Buddha carried a green brick and buffed it for several days. The noise made Mao Daoyi agitated and so he asked Huairang why Huairang did that, Huairang answered that it is for making glass. Daiyi felt very strange and asked how he could become Buddha, Huairang answered that Buddha was in his mind and Daoyi did not need sit in meditation. Daoyi suddenly understood and later created Hongzhou Branch of Buddhism. Therefore, the place where Huairang buffed glass was named "Buff Glass Stage" with "Zhuyuan" carved on it.

The scenery of Buff Glass Stage is very pretty. In the smoke and cloud, the pavilions look dim, having the poise and charm of immortal mountains. The tomb of Huairang lies on the right of it with "Zui Shen Lun Ta" carved on it.
