A man attempted to hijack Airliner B3043 on its way from Chongqing Municipality to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan Province, in southwest China, before landing, but was subdued by a security officer Friday afternoon.
The highjacker ignited home-made explosives, which injured a passenger and also himself.
The small plane, which belongs to the Sichuan Airlines, had 11 passengers (including the hijacker) and a crew of five aboard. It landed safely at Chengdu Airport at 1:39 p.m. after the foiled hijacking attempt.
The General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) has already sent two work teams to Chengdu to look into the incident.
