Tibet has abolished certain restrictions on traveling in the region for Hong Kong, Macao and foreign tourists in an effort to speed up the opening up of its tourism industry.
Rules that have been discarded include the requirement of confirmation letters to travel in Tibet from Hong Kong and Macao tourists, and of foreign tourists to travel in groups of at least 5 people.
The Tibetan government has also adopted preferential policies in a bid to encourage investment from both home and abroad in tourism construction and business.
One hundred thousand tourists visited Tibet in 2002, bringing a total value of 51 million US dollars in foreign exchange.
