The Shanghai Opera House's fourth annual pre-Christmas Eve concert at the Majestic Theatre will include a carefully-chosen selection of Christmas carols.
The concert will also mark the premiere Russian composer Gliere's Concerto for Coloratura Soprano in China.
This is a difficult work, making heavy demands of the singer. It is also a powerful piece telling of the Russian spirit in hard times.
The house invited Wu Bixia, a singer from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, to meet the challenge. Wu recently won second Prize in the 12th Tchaikovsky Musical Contest.
The opera house's leading singers will also participate in the performance, including Chi Liming, who just starred in "La Boheme" at the Shanghai International Arts Festival.
