Paul Mauriat orchestra is making its second tour of China, although composer and conductor Mauriat himself can't accompany them this time.
The orchestra was founded by Mauriat in 1965. Three years later, Mauriat found a unique way to combine classical music with pop and published an album "Love is Blue", which became a big hit.
Mauriat introduced the conception of "light music" to Chinese audiences in the early 1980s and started a craze for it.
Mauriat sold over 30 million albums and made more than 20 tours in Japan alone. His fan club is still very active in Japan.
Mauriat retired from performance in 1998, after choosing a replacement leader, Gilles Gambus, who used to work as a keyboard player for the orchestra. Gambus will conduct the performances in Shanghai.
The programme for the concerts will include the bestknown masterpieces such as "Love is Blue", "Toccata", and "Penelope" as well as a few pieces adapted from Chinese songs.
