A total of 80.71 million people traveled across China during the National Day vacation, 26.2 percent more than during the corresponding period last year.
More than 30.6 billion yuan (US$3.8 billion) was spent during the seven-day vacation, with expenditure per capita reaching 379 yuan (US$46), according to the latest statistics jointly issued by the National Bureau of Statistics and China National Tourism Administration.
There were 22.36 million overnight travelers, up 9.4 percent. Airfares brought in 1.27 billion yuan (US$150 million) and rail fares one billion yuan (US$120 million).
The 31 leading tourist cities in the country attracted 31.46 million travelers, with 8.45 million staying overnight. The 141 main shopping centers in these cities recorded sales worth 2.84 billion yuan (US$350 million), 16.8 percent higher than during the same period last year.
