1 Documents Needed

Non-Chinese travelers have to possess two documents. One is the regular Chinese visa that travelers can obtain from their local Chinese consulate, while the other is a permission letter allowing entry to Tibet issued by the Tibet Tourist Administration for foreign nationals.

2 How to get the visa and agreement to go to Tibet

A traveler can apply for the visa at any Chinese consulate. With a copy of first page of the passport and a description of his or her occupation, the traveler can entrust the local representative office of the Tibet Tourism Administration or any of international travel agency with an office in Tibet to help obtain the permission document.

3 Which seasons are the best in Tibet?

Generally, the period from April to October is the best time to travel in Tibet. But, concrete routes require concrete analysis. In fact, travel in winter is also very comfortable, especially as the traveler can enjoy the scenery in relative quiet as there will be few other visitors then.

4 Which places are most attractive in Tibet?

Lhasa, Zetang, Xigaze, Dingri, and Dangxiong are favorite places. Mount Qomolangma and the Shengshan mountains are full of mystery and encourage prolonged exploration.

Tibetans are very hospitable. A traveler can talk to them with ease. However, travelers should also pay attention to some taboos.

2. A traveler should not eat dog, monkey, or horse meat.
