Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has ordered the government to pay another 25,000 pounds (US$4,355) in compensation for each family of victims of Monday's train crash, the official MENA news agency reported on Thursday.
Of the total, 5,000 pounds would come from Qalyubiya governorate and remaining 20,000 pounds from a 0.05-pound insurance levied on each train ticket.
On Monday, Minister of Social Solidarity Ali Muselhi said that each family would get 5,000 pounds (US$871) as emergent compensation.
The government has also agreed to allocate 1.48 billion dollars to reform the country's dilapidated rail sector.
A train collision occurred in a village north of Cairo Monday morning, killing about 58 passengers and injuring 144.
The accident was still under investigation.
