Xitang, one of the many watertowns in eastern China's Jiangsu Province, has shut off most of its lights in the evening to save electricity.
The town has introduced an energy-saving policy during the hot summer -- the most electricity-consuming season in the whole year. Many of the decorative lights are turned off and over 500 old lights are replaced by energy-saving ones.
A volunteer group consisting of college students is spreading energy conservation knowledge to tourists and local residents.
The conserved electricity is used for civilian purposes.
