A blaze has been quenched after burning out at least 100 hectares of wildwood in a forest park in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, local forestry sources said Thursday.

The fire which raged in Urqihan National Forest Park was put out Wednesday morning after it entered the park Tuesday afternoon from the Xiriteqi Forest Farm more than 30 km away.

Fed by strong wind, the fire quickly blanketed over 100 hectares of forest area and destroyed most plants there within a day in the park.

The forest park, covering an area of 380 hectares, boasts more than 500 species of plants and herbs and many wild animals under state-level protection.
