Gov't to Input US$240 Billion on Passenger Railway

China will infill two trillion yuan (about US$240.96 billion) in building passenger express railway network in the next 15 years, an official with the Ministry of Railways said.

Lu Dongfu, vice minister of railways, disclosed Wednesday in Zhengzhou, the capital city of central China's Henan Province, that this enormous investment on railway construction was based on "the medium and long term development planning on Chinese railways" with the approval of the State Council.

He also disclosed that among all the nine approved express railways for passenger transportation, four of them originate in Zhengzhou.

All these express passenger railways, with a speed up to 300 km per hour, are expected to complete in the year 2010,
