Olympics Traffic Plan Released

Traffic is always a major concern for Beijing residents, and many worry what things will be like when the Olympics comes in 2008.

But, the city's traffic departments have recently released plans to optimize traffic before and during the Olympics.

The Beijing News reports that one of the measures will be providing car service during the Olympics. IOC and sports officials will get car service at their convenience. Shuttle buses will take journalists, volunteers and other staff to different venues. Even the audience will be able to get free car service to venues with tickets in hand.

To discourage people from driving their own cars to watch the games, private parking space will not be provided at any of the stadiums.

Earlier reported, a special Olympic car lane will be used in some of the roads. A traffic information hotline will be opened serving people in 24 languages. Brochures with all the traffic information will also be handed out to delegates from all countries.
