North China is expected to see three sandstorms in the next ten days, which will be accompanied by strong winds, according to the Central Meteorological Station of China.
The sandstorms, forecast to occur between April 18 and 21, will affect about ten provinces and municipalities in north China, said Jiao Meiyan, head of the meteorological station, on Monday.
"The sandstorm weather will exert serious, negative impacts on both public safety and the health of the local people," said Jiao, who advised the public to reduce outdoor activities as much as possible.
Jiao also suggested the public take a timely notice of sandstorm and strong-wind warnings issued by the local weather departments, and take necessary precautionary measures against possible harms and damages caused by unfavorable weathers.
According to the Central Meteorological Station, China had experienced five sandstorms from Jan. 1 to April 18 this year, much fewer than the average in the past six years.
