A Boeing 757 plane of China Southern Airlines carrying 158 passengers landed safely at the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport after a technical problem in its port engine Sunday afternoon.
No one was hurt, the Guangzhou Daily reported Monday.
A smoke issued into the passenger cabin when the plane from Kunming was 20 minutes from the airport. Passengers complained of a smell of burning and were told something was wrong with the air-conditioning system, the report said.
More smoke filled the cabin after the captain ordered the air-conditioning system shut down, said the report.
The ground control center activated emergency procedures after being told of the problem.
It was found that the smoke was caused by a technical problem in the plane's port engine.
The plane landed at 18:02 PM Sunday.
Boeing 757 planes were early Boeing aircraft and the company had already stopped production of the aircraft.
The airline company has 62 Boeing 757 planes.
