China produced 7.12 million liquid crystal display televisions (LCD TVs) in the first ten months, up 124 percent from the same period of last year, according to statistics released by the Ministry of Information Industry (MII) Tuesday.
The output of LCD TVs during the January-October period accounted for 9.7 percent of the total output of color TVs, up 5.3 percentage points from a year ago.
The statistics also show that the output of rear projection TVs (RPTVs) rose 31 percent in the first ten months while the output of plasma display panel TVs (PDP TVs) decreased 15.4 percent.
LCD TV, RPTV and PDP TV are three mature types of Flat Panel TV (FPTV).
The FPTV market has seen rapid growth in China, said an official with the MII, and Chinese enterprises should make more efforts in research to make breakthroughs in core technology.
As the largest color TV producer and consumer in the world, China produced over 50 percent color televisions of the world. Color TV output, sales and exports have seen two-digit growth in recent years although the growth has been slowing since 2003.
According to statistics of the MII, China produced 73.25 million color TVs in the first ten months.
