An important orientation item of the knowledge innovation project initiated by Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), " Internet Protocol Version 6 (Ipv6) Key Network Technology Research and City Area Demonstration System" has passed the appraisal by expert panel. The success marks that China has established its first commercial city area experiment network for the Next Generation Internet (NGI) in Southwestern China's Chongqing Municipality.
What is notable is the overwhelming application of homemade core facilities such as router, converter gateway, network monitor and analysis system, and cable and wireless access system.
In recent years, as information technology develops, studies on Next Generation Internet (NGI) based on Ipv6 has been set by many countries as the focus of the development of science and technology. Departments such as National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Science and Technology and the CAS also input fund to push the research in that field in a bid to have a seat in the network competition in the future.
The project was led by CAS, and jointly completed by its Institute of Acoustics and Computer Network Information Center. Expert held that, through the project, China grasped the core technologies of Next Generation Internet, and succeeded in a batch of core technologies and innovations with independent intellectual property rights thus provided support for the practical Next Generation Internet (NGI).
These achievements will play an important role in China's NGI and lay a healthy foundation for the related research and construction.
