Haier India, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Chinese home appliances giant Haier Group, is planning to expand its operations in India.
The company will initially set up a research and development center which is likely to be located in northern India.
Manufacturing facilities will then be built at a later date.
Director of Haier India Pranay Dhabai says the company will dabble in sales of color TVs, microwave ovens, washing machines, refrigerators as well as GSM and CDMA handsets.
It has inked cooperation contracts with Indian home appliance maker Voltas and the world's largest home appliance producer Whirlpool to promote its expansion.
