The picture taken on Aug. 15, 2003 shows a three-dimensional image of No. 2 "Yunxian Man" fossil human skull in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei Province.
The Chinese and French archeologists have measured accurately the brain volume of the No. 2 fossil skull of Yunxian man, dated back to more than 1 million years, after one year's efforts. According to their measurements, the brain volume of Yunxian man was 1,065 ml, compared with 1,075 ml for Peking man, discovered at Zhoukoudian, 48 km from Beijing. The two skulls were excavated in Yunxian County in 1989. They have been distorted because they are covered and filled with solid calcium, the result of years of exposure to calcium-filled water.
