Chinese mainland's first mainboard of notebook PC with independent intellectual property rights was successfully developed in the Board-card & Notebook PC Design Center under Lenovo Group (former Legend Group) the other day. Meanwhile, the software used in the bottom of the notebook PC was also successfully developed.
It is reported that the mainboard of first notebook PC project (named as Chang'an by Lenovo Group) adopt the latest Pentium-M CPU, i885 chipset and the framework of Intel Pro/Wireless. According to the engineers of Lenovo Group, the mainboard is the core of a Notebook PC while the software used in the bottom is the soul base of a notebook PC. The successful development of the mainboard and the software used in the bottom marks the abilities of Lenovo Group in designing the core parts of a notebook PC independently. Now, the group is applying for over 20 patents for such a technology.
Growing out of Legend QDI center which was founded in 1989 in Hong Kong, Lenovo Boardcard & Notebook PC Design Center is the first one of its kind in Chinese companies. With nearly 200 software and hardware engineers, the center mainly devotes itself to the design of compact system and the research of the design for board-card.
According to the comments of IT experts, most of the foreign companies and almost all the Chinese companies owning notebook PC brands operate in the mode of OEM, namely, except marketing operation and customer service, the design, development and manufacture are all finished by specialized manufactories. Under the pattern of OEM, that the manufacturer pays more attention to the technology development will obviously be able to meet more requirements featuring individuality of customers. And the changes of competition pattern brought about by it will no doubt be the brightest spotlight in the notebook PC market this year.
