A high-performance Internet 2 network linking the United States and Hong Kong for local universities to do researches with their US counterparts was launched Thursday.
Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology Henry Tang officiated at the launching ceremony to mark the establishment of the connection.
"The next generation of advanced Internet network promises to enable the deployment of advanced applications on the Internet to meet our growing demands," Tang said.
Internet 2 is a collaborative effort initiated by corporations of the United States. It aims to develop advanced Internet technologies to significantly improve the performance of the Internet, so as to enable the operation of advanced Internet applications.
