HK IT Delegation Wins Asia-Pacific ICT Awards 2002
Hong Kong IT delegation won grand awards in four out of the total five categories in Asia-Pacific ICT Awards (APICTA) in Malaysia from Sept. 2 to 7, 2002, a press release said Thursday.

The Hong Kong delegation of eight companies has achieved the best results among 11 participating countries and regions with a total of 90 nominated projects, scoring the E-Commerce Interactive Marketing Innovations Award, Business Applications Award, E-Government Applications and Services Award and Telehealth Solutions Award.

The delegation was chosen from winners of the IT Excellence Awards organized by the Hong Kong Computer Society, who joined hands with the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) to lead the delegation to the contest.

The permanent secretary for the Commerce, Industry and Technology Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Francis Ho Suen-wai, pointed out, "It's especially encouraging to learn that we have won four awards this year. It also reflects the competitiveness of Hong Kong companies in developing information and communication technology."

Ho added, "The winning projects have promising export potential. Our great achievement this year not only helps boost Hong Kong's economic development but also demonstrates our competitive edge to the Asia-Pacific region and the rest of the world."

The delegation leader and president of the Hong Kong Computer Society, Daniel Lai, noted that the event, besides recognizing Hong Kong's achievements in the IT industry, also stimulates technology transfer and cooperation between enterprises, which is beneficial to Hong Kong's future development.

Looking forward, TDC's Senior Services Promotion Manager RachelChan promised that they would also render full support to the HongKong Computer Society to organize Hong Kong companies to participate in APICTA to be held in Cairns, Australia, in 2003.
