Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said China's capital welcomed overseas Chinese and foreign nationals of Chineseorigin to join its hi-tech development, when meeting with overseas Chinese from the United States, Canada, Thailand and Hong Kong and Taiwan here on Friday.
Liu said Beijing would have a prosperous future spurred by China's World Trade Organization (WTO) entry and Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympic Games.
The municipal government has outlined a blueprint fully supporting high-tech industries, Liu said. Preferential policies have been established to attract skilled people and overseas companies to build research and development bases in Beijing, he said.
Liu said he hoped to see more overseas Chinese working with theBeijing Municipal Government to prepare for the first ever Summer Olympics in the nation.
Beijing would hold open bidding for Olympics construction projects according to international practice, he added, saying chances were waiting there for competitive bidders.
