Millions of households in east China's Shandong Province will soon be able to connect their personal computers to the Internet without having telephone connections.
Shandong East Communication Technologies Inc. and US company Hughes Network Systems signed a deal recently to import wireless Internet access technology for personal computers.
According to the deal, the Shandong company will import the Hughes 26 gigabits broadband wireless telecommunication technology,much more powerful than China's mainstream 3.5 gigabits wire Internet connection technology.
Experts with the company said to access the Internet at home, all a household needs is a PC, a wireless Internet access card, and shared wireless receiving equipment installed at the top of the building in which the PC is located.
The wireless receiving equipment is sufficient for all households in an apartment block, according to the experts.
The deal was signed after China published its technological standards on broadband wireless Internet connection in May.
China Telecom (Shandong) will be using the technology on a trial basis.
