First Mobile Phone Newspaper Launched

Guangdong Mobile Communication Co., Ltd., together with Xinhua News Agency and several major newspapers of Guangdong Province, took the initiative to introduce "mobile phone newspaper" service throughout the country Tuesday.

 

Mobile users in Guangdong Province are able to browse wonderful content of Xinhua Express News, Reference News, Nanfang Daily, Guangzhou Daily, Yangcheng Evening News, etc. through internet, multimedia message and SMS.

 

According to source with the marketing department of Guangdong Mobile Communication Co., Ltd., the "mobile phone newspaper" promoted on July 18 is a free trial version, which mainly consists of WAP and multimedia messages at first. It simulates an ordinary newspaper in that it covers a wide range of reports and is issued and charged on a daily basis (currently free of charge).

 

It is learned that the upcoming multimedia message function of the "mobile phone newspaper" will enable users to request the current issue of newspaper by sending a message or making a call. According to those requests, the system will send users WAP version or multimedia message version of "mobile phone newspaper."
